I'm sure most of you have seen or heard of the Australian bikini/underwear brand Triangl, their bikinis have been flooding instagram and Twitter feeds this summer. With their simple design and bold colours, I can’t lie that I’ve been envious. I’ve wanted one since the first time I saw their neon triangle black edged bikinis. The only thing that puts me off is their price. At $79-$89 or £50-£55 if you're from the UK is very expensive by my standards for a bikini, PLUS there’s shipping on top of that at a further $20 PLUS when it gets to the UK depending on how much you’ve spent you will have to pay duty and VAT on top of this price. It works out rather pricey when you add everything up.

That's when I decided to try and find a dupe, after all you can find dupes for nearly everything really, although it is harder find find those that match the quality and look almost identically. These tend to happen when someone simply buys the stock direct from the manufacturer before any branding is put on it, so you can often find it cheaper it just won’t have the logo you’d expect it to. I headed to ebay in the search of a Triangl dupe and soon realised after reading reviews that there were a lot, and I mean A LOT, of sellers putting Triangl photographs and then the actual bikini you buy looked nothing like it! Many were not even swim suit material but more like underwear fabric, which would go see-through when wet - not good! So beware! If you’re paying £7 for a neoprene bikini on ebay chances are it’s not going to be the quality you want!

After starting my fitness journey I’ve become a bit obsessed with Instagram…whoops, I check it all the time and love the explore function to find nice pictures - think it’s the photographer in me. Anyways I can’t remember how I came across it but I found the Instagram page for a company called Brakinis, they literally have spot on Triangl bikini dupes. So after a bit of googling to check their website wasn’t fake or a scam I took the plunge and ordered two Brakinis Bikinis. For ease a lot have the same name as their Triangl counterpart but with one difference; the price tag! A Winnie bikini on Triangl would cost you $89 but on Brakinis it’s only $49.99! Saving you almost $40! They are literally almost half the price, all of them!

Ordering + Delivery + packaging

Brakinis have an official website (find it here), it's easy to navigate and you pay via paypal. they don't except card payments but to be honest Paypal is more secure. I ordered on the 1st September and received my package on the 13th Septemeber, I used their e-packet service which starts at $9.99. If you need it quicker you can upgrade this to DHL packaging but this costs more. The bikinis come packaged within a shallow box to keep them protected during transit, inside they sit within a plastic drawstring bag in individual plastic sleeves.

Material + Quality

Just like Triangl bikinis these are made from neoprene, which is the same material wet suits are made from. This makes them a lot more durable than traditional swimsuit fabrics, also they are more flattering as they smooth out your skin. One thing to pay attention to is how to care for this fabric, you have to hand wash them and make sure to store them flat otherwise you will get marks and dents in them. Apparently if this happens you can iron them as long as you place a piece of material over the top and iron on a low heat - I’m just going to try and take care of them. Quality-wise the bikinis are prefect, from what I can see there’s no poor stitching or anything sub quality. I definitely found a winner here!

Sizing

The great thing about these bikinis is that you can order different sizes for top and bottom, as lets face it many of us have different size boobs and bums! I ordered a medium in both of the top styles as I have quite a large rib cage and was worried they would be too snug if I got a small, even though my cup size recommends a small. (32 inch rib cage with 36 bust) I think I maybe should have got a small in the Chloe style as it’s a bit too big around the cup. Bottom wise I ordered winnie in an X large and Chloe in a large as I have hips and a bum! I found the width in the two different styles to be very similar but the Winnie bottoms have a little more stretch in them and cover my bum a bit more. (For reference I'm a size 12-14 UK.) I’d advise to be true to your size, don’t buy a size smaller because you think it’ll make your bum look smaller or boobs tighter - it won’t be very flattering. As there isn't much give and they will cut in if too small.

Styles

On the Brakinis site there are currently 6 different styles of bikinis; Winnie, Chloe, Ollie, Milly, Holy and Indy. Conveniently they have the same names as their Triangl counterparts, plus in some styles they have extra colour options only available on Brakinis. My favourite styles are Winnie, Chloe and Milly! So cute!

Winnie Arizona Sunset

I ended up ordering a Winnie Bikini in Arizona Sunset for $49.99, which is a bandeau style vibrant orange colour. It has a functional front zip and flexible boning on the front and sides to give the bikini support and structure. This top is not adjustable and has a back clasp fastening - sizing is according to your normal cup size. If you’re self conscious about your boobs looking small I wouldn’t advise this one as it doesn’t have padding and won’t make them look larger, if anything I find it squishes them (good thing though as you don't want the top falling down if its too big). The bottoms that come with this are high curve hipster style briefs, so sit quite low on your hips. Both top and bottom feature the black fabric edging strips.

Chloe Miami Mint

I’m obsessed with mint green at the moment, so I knew my next choice would have to be in this colour! The only two styles that had it were the Winnie and the Chloe, so as I wanted to get a different style I went for the Chloe in Miami mint for $39.99. Chloe is a traditional triangle shaped bikini but the triangles are fixed in position so you can’t move them more to the side. Luckily the ties do have some stretch though to this shouldn’t be a problem, but if you do have bigger boobs you will need a larger size for coverage otherwise you may have some slips! As it’s a tie up you can have it as tight or loose as you want, so make sure you get the right cup size as you know that the back will always fit on this one. Also even though there is no padding as such, as neoprene is quite a thick material to start with nothing will be visible when you get out the pool. The bottoms on this version are also hipster but with a boyleg brief cut and medium coverage.

Differences

If your buying this as a Triangl dupe you’ll want to know if people will be able to tell it’s not real. So below are the differences that I can see:

Winnie

Brakinis text on zip
Dotted back clasp instead of Triangl branded
Small plastic Brakinis tag but this is easily cut off if you want them to look identical
Brakinis Winnie Arizona SunsetBrakinis Winnie Arizona Sunset

Chloe

Small plastic Brakinis tag but this is easily cut off if you want them to look identical
neck and back tie weights brakini branded
And most importantly the price tag!

Would I recommend these?

Definitely! Brakinis are so affordable and offer people that don't want to spend as much to have cute Triangl-esk bikinis! Not only are they cute and colour but they're very comfy, neoprene is surprisingly a really nice material to wear. I always thought wet suits looked so restricting and uncomfortable, oh how wrong was I. Only problem now is that I kind of want even more now! Bring on my holiday next month so I can wear these beauties.

I purchased mine from their official website rather than an ebay seller. Link here

  1. These are gorgeous! I love the Triangl bikinis but I wouldn't pay that much for them so I'm glad you managed to find a dupe. I also love how the mint one matches your blog perfectly haha :)

  5. Did you have to pay any additional duties or taxes on them when they arrived? Also...Have you road tested them yet in the water? How did you find them? Great review by the way. xxx

    1. Depending on how much you spend you may have to pay some additional duties, but you would have to do this with triangl ones also. Plus where brakinis are cheaper this would be less

  6. I'm a size 8-10 in clothes, I notice you went a size up in the Winnie bottoms from your suggested size on the website. Would you suggest that I went for a size 10-12 or do you think a small would be ok?

    1. If you're a comfortable 8-10 then a small should be fine, I think they fit up to 38 inches bum. But if you're closer to that it may be worth going up a size as neoprene doesn't have much stretch in it as a fabric

  7. How much did you need to pay in import duties? im in the uk and needed to pay £25 and that was with Triangl plus that was just for one bikini. i know you said it would be cheaper but i would just like a rough idea so it doesnt shock me again :)

    1. As long as your order is under £135 I don't think you have to pay duties on it but anything over £7 you have to pay VAT on, so 20% of the value. Roughly £6 on top I think. I found this link that might help explain it:

  9. Are there any issues with the back clasp? I want to order one but I'm worried the clasp won't hold during wear. Have you experienced anything like that?
